Poised on a gorgeous mountainside just two miles below the Blue Ridge Parkway in Carroll County, Virginia, Levering Orchard is a fruit lovers’ paradise, which is also the largest cherry orchard in the South. Just a 15-minute drive north of Mount Airy, N.C., this family-run orchard is known throughout the region for its 44 varieties of mouth-watering sweet and tart cherries found on 33 acres of orchard. The orchard also offers peaches, nectarines, plums, pears, apricots, and apples.
Hours: Mon., Tues., Wed., Fri. and Sat., 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Thurs., 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sun. the orchard is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The packhouse closes promptly after the orchard.
Location: To reach Levering Orchard from Mount Airy, follow Wards Gap Road (VA 679) north to Orchard Gap Road (VA 691). About 12 miles from downtown Mount Airy. Straight ahead on the left.
